The story of a passion
The passion of two brothers, coming from a family of millers, for wine production led, in one of the most important wine regions in Portugal, to the founding, in 1977, of the company Santos & Santos. The brand was born from a long family tradition as they own a mill, located in Ribeira de Pedrulhos, which is still part of the exterior decor of the company's facilities today, continuing to be its ex libris.
In one of the most important wine regions in Portugal, the company Santos & Santos was born, founded in 1977 by the Santos brothers. Growth and evolution led to the acquisition, in the 1980s, of Quinta da Cidadoura, built in the remote 19th century. XIII, where 90ha of vineyards were planted in an excellent agricultural area, from which Regional Lisboa wines are produced. In 2001, nurturing the dream of expanding and designing their brands and wines, they decided to invest in Alentejo, acquiring Herdade da Fonte Coberta, located in Évora.
Later, in 2005, looking to expand their business, the family acquired Viticarvalhal – Sociedade de Vinhos, investing in a company that had been on the market since 1930 and had a long tradition and recognition in wine production.
Recent years have been characterized by continued growth in achieving well-defined goals. In 2021, Viticarvalhal was extinguished, thus being merged and absorbed in its entirety by Santos & Santos, which is today a solid company, creditor of the respect and trust that its partners place in it.

Facilities
Aiming to respond and monitor the dynamic developments in the markets and fulfill the well-defined goals it set itself, Santos & Santos, without ever forgetting the tradition in wine manufacturing, has been investing in evolution and modernization, investing in new techniques, equipment and facilities, building in 2014 a new bottling and logistics unit, with a covered area of ??6000m2 that accommodates the entire administrative area, laboratory, logistics and storage area, winemaking area and filling area, where the 7 production lines are located. filling different types of packaging (bottles, bag-in-box, tetrapak and “pet” carboy).
Expansion of wine production to the Alentejo region
In 2001 and through the accumulated experience, as well as the dedication and commitment of the entire team in the production of wines of enormous quality, Herdade da Fonte Coberta was acquired in the Alentejo region where the knowledge acquired has been applied and has resulted in the extreme distinction of of this property.
A production unit identical to the one existing in the West Zone where wines from the Lisbon region are produced was created there.
All the top wines produced by Herdade da Fonte Coberta have been successively distinguished, with several gold, silver and bronze medals, in the most prestigious national and international competitions, namely, Concurso Vinhos de Portugal, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Decanter World Wine Awards , International Wine & Spirits Competition, Concours International de Lyon, China Wines & Spirits Awards and Arribes Awards, thus proving the excellent quality of the wines we produce.
Quality policy
Santos & Santos – Companhia de Vinhos is a company that operates in an environment of permanent improvement, through a Food Safety Policy, a policy that is managed by compliance with the requirements arising from national and European legislation, regarding the activity of handling and preparation of food products. In line with current legislation, this company has implemented the HACCP system (Hazard Analysis and Critical Point Control System) and is also certified with ISO 22000:2018 (Hygiene and Food Safety).
The application of the Quality and Food Safety Policy established by Santos & Santos – Companhia de Vinhos aims to motivate the commitment of its suppliers, employees and customers, leading to the obtaining of products that meet and, preferably, exceed customer expectations.

Export
In more than 20 countries, the Santos & Santos brand has been present in the foreign market since 2008, the year in which it began exporting from the Angolan market. In recent years we have consolidated our presence, with some representations in around 20 countries (Angola, Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Guinea-Bissau, Netherlands, Japan, Luxembourg, Mozambique, Nigeria, Poland, United Kingdom, Russia, Switzerland, São Tomé and Príncipe, USA).
Exports currently represent 25% of the company's turnover, equivalent to around 2.5 million liters of wine, with a forecast increase of around 10 to 15% in the coming years.
