Herdade do Gamito is a 300-hectare country estate set in the Northeastern Alentejo, a province famed for its wines and rich history. The estate belongs to a traditional family with an illustrious past tied to the region, dating back to the bygone time of knights and kings. The vineyard sits among soft hills, cradled by a generous sun and featherlike clouds, being comprised of 27 hectares, for the production of world-class wines.
Gamito. One word denominates this monovarietal wine of the Estate to which it owes its namesake. It is beyond the Tagus River, from a noble cradle, which rests between soft valleys and a caring sun, where this wine is born.
A celebration of the rich Syrah variety, having aged 12 months in barrels, the notes of red fruits come together with notes of cacao and spices, resulting in a grainy color, a full-bodied palate, and an intense aroma, culminating in a soft finish with good persistence. Experiencing this singular wine is to taste the soul of the temperate and historical lands it hails from.
This wine is produced in the northern alentejo, in transitional soils with a strong granite component, from the varieties: Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, Trincadeira Preta, and Merlot. The wine aged in french oak barrels during a time period of ten months.
The result was a fruity and complex aroma and a rich and harmonious palate, full of mineral freshness.
Wine from the region of Crato, which was for many centuries, a land of wine, knights, and military orders.
Through here passed the Knights Hospitaller (future Sovereign Military Order of Malta), appreciating the generosity of the lands of Crato and its even more generous wines.
It is between the lost valleys beyond the Tagus River, which have sheltered different ancient civilizations, where the elements come together as a soft melody. Here, the vines grow strong, nurtured by sun and water, under the Blackbird’s magic song.
The Blackbird considered sacred in ancient Greece, the guardian of Druid mystical secrets and tempter of St. Benedict, it is in him that we have found both name and inspiration for this unique wine.
This red is made from the varieties: Trincadeira, Aragonez, Merlot, and Alicante Bouschet, which grow on the slopes of Crato, a region with excellent edaphoclimatic aptitudes for the production of quality wine.
It possesses a ruby color, an aroma with notes of ripe red fruit, which is elaborate and intense, revealing a balanced palate, soft tannins, and good persistence.
Gamito. One word designates the first white varietal wine of the estate.
Beyond the Tagus River, resting within soft valleys and protected by a nurturing sun, is where this wine is born from the Verdelho varietal.
It’s a varietal, which adapts very well to granite soil, leading to a distinguished wine. The wine presents a citrine color and a fresh aroma with notes of lemon. It has a balanced palate, a fruity taste, culminated by an excellent finish.

We present, our much-anticipated first white wine. Produced near the historic village of Crato, where the ancient Knights of the Order of Malta roamed.
From these granitic lands and a blend of the Arinto, Verdelho, and Alvarinho grape varieties, the result was a citrine color, intense aroma, fruity and fresh, culminating in a balanced palate.
Having a mineral and pleasant acidity with hints of fresh fruit. Ideal for simple dishes such as delicious grilled fish and seafood, it is refined authenticity in a bottle.

Life is about evolving. Wine is a great metaphor for life. It is born, nurtured, it matures, reaches a prime, and eventually dies.
If it reached some level of greatness it will be remembered. If not, it will be forgotten. Subsequent generations follow, hopefully better than the previous.
Herdade do Gamito is such a case. Descending from previous great vintages, this is our best vintage yet. Therefore, we have taken an extra special care with this magnificent year, shaping it to its full potential.
In the Northern Alentejo, the Atlantic breeze traverses through valleys and plains, reminding us that in Portugal the ocean is always near, always present. This rosé was inspired in this very thought, its name making reference to a sea with perfect lines and ideal conditions for surfing, inviting you to good times and refreshing moments, wherever you may be. Produced from our estate’s Aragonez and Syrah grape varieties, it’s a wine with fine red fruit aromas, ideal for roasted fish dishes. It should be served at a temperature of 10 ºC.
The Beginning:
Herdade do Gamito resides in the Northeastern Alentejo, 4 km from the historical village of Crato, the ancient headquarters of the Order of Malta in Portugal. Comprised by 27 hectares of vines, it belongs to the descendants of a traditional family, with centenary roots in the region.
Stories of the family’s illustrious ancestors inhabited the thoughts of Gonçalo de Sá da Bandeira as a child. He dreamed of recovering the lost lands of his forefathers. This want, together with his love for the land and a passion for wine, led him to buy from his father a small parcel of land, which was what remained of what had once been a grand agricultural estate.
With much work, persistence, help from his wife and his friends, he steadily expanded the borders of his small farm and began to play with the art of making wine. It was an artisan beginning, which eventually evolved and adapted to the requirements of modern and professional enology.
The wines of Herdade do Gamito were born from the will of a child who has been for a long time now, a man. However, he never stopped dreaming. And some say, that if you look close enough, you can see these dreams dancing in each bottle.
The Concept:
A deep understanding of the land was what made this wine project possible, which has gone beyond its commercial vein. It’s a passion, which we eagerly share with wine lovers all over the world.
The pursuit of quality, the attention to detail in each stage of production, tradition allied to innovation, the value of artisan work and recourse to state-of-the-art technology are some of the factors that mark our wines, produced exclusively from our own grapes.
We are interested in commercial partners that value high-quality estate wines and that dedicate attention to the brands they represent and distribute. Our goal is to export 70% of our production, partnering with importers/distributors that are a pleasure to work with.
