Esmero Wines is one peculiar project; its essence is based in the immense care that the Owner and Winemaker Rui Soares apply to each wine produced in this property. This special care together with very unique terroirs produces wines very different from the mainstream that nowadays are produced in the region. The reds are particularly aromatic, with very elegant bodies and a lot of minerality present. The white ones present a perfect acidity, seductive aromas and really pleasant bodies!
This winery embodies the exact definition of a boutique producer!
Old vines (50 years), blend os Viosinho and Gouveio. Limited edition (2.800 bottles).
Adult vineyard, blend of Moscatel Galego Branco, Fernão Pires and Síria in transition soil from achist to granite.
VINES - Where it all begins...
The vines are in the sub-region of Baixo Corgo (Valdigem), distributed by 3 parcels with total area of 6 ha on terraces along the hillside supported by walls of stone, with exposure of the quadrant west. The soils are stony and mostly schist, with a parcel of vine in land transition to granite.
In schist predominate the red grapes, living harmoniously widespread varieties such as Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Trincadeira e Touriga Nacional with other more rare (Malvasia Preta, Tinta da Barca, Rufete...). The white grapes prevail in the transition parcel: Viosinho, Gouveio, Fernão Pires, Síria, among others.
The age of the vines is high - between 30 and 80 years! - With high-density planting and balanced unit production, which ranges from 0,5 to 1 kg of grapes per grapevine.
It's in the vine that everything begins, hence the importance in producing grapes with high quality potential, capable of express at the maximum the varietal characteristics enhanced by the terroir where they are!
WINES
The wines we have actually in the market are:
- ESMERO red, produced from a very old vine (80 years) with blend of varieties, located at low altitude in schist soil
- MIMO red, produced from a vine with 50 years old and blend of varieties different from the previous, located in schist soil at half slope
- ESMERO white, comes from old vines aged 50 years, installed in transition soil to granite
- MIMO white, comes from vines aged 30 years, installed in transition soil to granite
