The Herdade da Comporta is one of the largest private estates in Portugal 12,500 hectares.
A beautiful expanse of dunes, beaches, forest, marsh, agricultural land and vineyards, it is situated on the Alentejo coast, just south of the Setúbal Península.
A place of wild beauty, where the sun reveals intense and vibrant colors, and the generous earth gives of its unhurried best.
Sandy soils, a mild climate with many hours of sunshine, fresh ocean breezes, and an all-pervading sense of calm.
Much of the estate is officially classified as a ‘Reserva Ecológica Natural’. The estuary of the River Sado, the dunes, marshes and rice fields are home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
35 hectares of vines (20 hectares of red grapes and 15 hectares of white grapes) are planted in a very gently inclined sandy valley running from east to west. The vines are thus exposed to the sun practically all day long.
The estate has a very particular microclimate, with plentiful sun yet mild temperatures thanks to the proximity of the ocean – perfect conditions to ripen grapes of excellent concentration and balance.
Optimum production, controlled througth cultural operations, such as prunings and weeds, carried out with great rigor and accord with each variety, guarantee healthy grapes of great quality.
