B-Mum is a Portuguese company that emerged as a result of the fantastic experience of being a MOTHER (B-Mum) and from the needs felt during maternity.

 B-Mum aims to be a company that presents solutions related with safety and practical solutions for mothers and children.

The goal is to make a mother's everyday life easier, so that she can, as much as possible, spend most of her time living fully her baby.At this moment B-Mum presents its initial product, the SafetyBabyBed, which was born, as a result of all the advise and concerns of health professionals (hospitals, health centres and paediatricians) about how we should put our baby into bed and all the care we need to take for the prevention and reduction of the risk of suffocation (one of the risk factors of Sudden Death Syndrome in newborns) by the sheets and/or bed linen.

The SafetyBabyBed is a safety system integrated into bed sheets, whose specific design prevents the baby from sliding under the bed clothes, thus, reducing the risk of suffocation. Some statistics in some countries indicate that about 16 to 22% of the babies, who died from sudden death, were found with their heads covered by bedding clothes. Because this is so worrying for parents, SafetyBabyBed has emerged, as a safety system with a specific design to help parents to become more aware of safety issues. The aim of SafetyBabyBed is to reduce the risk of suffocation of babies by bedding clothes in their first months of life, as the baby has no perception of  obstruction and has not yet well develop its defensive reflexes (either by maturation, or by inadequate levels of the brain chemical serotonin, or by any other unknown reason). This safety system is adjustable to the growth of the baby and is removable. When the baby has already developed the ability to defend itself against an obstruction, the safety system can be removed and one can continue using the sheets in a more practical way, because of their different design, until the baby leaves its cot (from birth to four years old, in case of  60x120 or 70x140 bed measures). Since September 2017, SafetyBabyBed has already been on sale on-line (www.b-mum.com),  in 46 stores, 6 Pharmacies  and it is now recommended in 44 health centres, in Portugal and one representation / distribution in South África.

The development and growth of SafetyBabyBed has been followed by the Paediatric and Neonatology Department of Hospital de Guimarães, by Tecminho at the University of Minho, through the programmes of IdeaLab and Laboratory of Companies and by Citeve (the Centre of Textile Technology) /CESPU / Universidade Lusíada, through its NETT (New Technological Textile Companies) programme. This SafetyBabyBed system, which has its patent pending (international patent application), was a semi-finalist project in a Portuguese Entrepreneurship Competition 2015 (from among 18.700 projects) and recently it won the First Prize for the best project of the NETT programme.

Currently the safetybabybed exists in 3 bed measures: 50x80 (cribs type "Next2me"); 60x120 (beds of grids) and 70x140 (modular beds)
