Transwater - Sociedade Portuguesa de Tubos, SA, is a company specialized in the manufacture of prestressed concrete tubes with steel core, the best solution for the transport of water under pressure (quality durability price).
A company is certified through the ISO 9001 standard, the product is certified by the Bureau Veritas through the EN639 and EN642 standards, and also by the Eduardo Torroja Construction Sciences Institute, in Madrid, through the issuance of a DIT - Document of Technical Suitability.
We have thousands of kilometers installed with diameters between DN500 and DN2000, with total guarantee of quality and safety.

The prestressed concrete tube with steel core is a little known product, and little produced, as it involves a large investment for the installation of a production center, and has a specific application, very dependent on public investment in most cases .
On the other hand, those who come into contact with the manufacturing process and the final result, immediately realize the quality, and the excellent engineering solution present in this tube. Once the solution has been presented, whether to end customers or designers, the product is very well accepted, and becomes the option for pressure water transport projects, such as a water irrigation network, large intakes or pipelines in networks of water supply, dams, pipelines, etc... usually in diameters greater than or equal to DN500.
The tube is much cheaper than cast iron or steel solutions, has a much higher quality than the plastics tube, and is capable of withstanding pressures up to PN 25.
The steel core concrete tube is composed of:
- a sheet steel jacket, which is responsible for the tightness of the tube;
- an inner concrete layer, whose function is to withstand oval forces and protect the steel jacket from external agents;
- high-strength steel wire wound under tension, on the outside of the steel jacket, in order to cope with internal and external stresses and strains;
- an outer concrete layer, under the steel wire, in order to protect the tube from external impacts, and the steel wire from corrosion.
Pipe joints can be welded, either single flexible or double flexible.
The flexible double joint allows a tightness test of the joint during assembly, through a quick and simple air pressure test, which is a great asset in terms of application, cost reduction, and safety.
Our internationalization strategy will have as a first stage to export our product to the countries of North Africa, as well as other countries also in Africa. Our installed production capacity is much higher than the demand in Portugal, so we need to optimize resources through new orders from abroad. Later, in line with developments, we will be able to set up new factories abroad.
Our team has a lot of experience in exporting this product to Algeria and Morocco. We intend to penetrate these markets in a dynamic and continuous way, instead of what happened in the past, in which it was the customers themselves who sought our product.
I am sure that both public customers and construction companies, as soon as they get to know the quality and price of our product up close, will adopt this solution in major irrigation and water supply projects.
For the researches done, the export potential of this product to Algeria and Morocco, will exceed 200 M €.
