About Food is a Portuguese producer of fresh-frozen spirulina, operating in a controlled and sustainable environment in the centre of Portugal. Our mission is to deliver a premium, clean-label microalgae ingredient to food manufacturers, nutraceutical companies, and innovative product developers across Europe.
We cultivate Arthrospira platensis under strict quality and food-safety standards, ensuring full traceability from culture to harvest. Our production system combines controlled-environment raceways, purified water from deep artesian wells, and continuous monitoring to guarantee a pure, contaminant-free biomass with exceptional nutritional value.
Our product is supplied as fresh-frozen spirulina (80 percent moisture), a versatile ingredient for beverages, snacks, fermented products, supplements, and functional foods. The frozen format preserves colour, flavour and nutritional integrity without the need for additives or stabilisers.
About Food is part of the Smart Rural HIESE innovation ecosystem and benefits from scientific support provided by the Instituto Pedro Nunes. The company is currently preparing its scale-up phase, with an annual capacity validated at fifty tonnes and expansion scenarios up to one hundred and fifty tonnes already defined.

About Food produces high quality frozen spirulina biomass obtained from controlled cultivation of Arthrospira platensis, ensuring full traceability from growth to final packaging. The spirulina is harvested daily and rapidly frozen in order to preserve its natural colour, neutral taste, nutritional value and purity, without the use of additives or preservatives.
Our spirulina is supplied as ready to use frozen biomass, suitable for food manufacturers, R&D laboratories, functional nutrition brands, specialised distributors and innovation driven projects. It is a versatile ingredient that can be incorporated into beverages, smoothies, protein rich formulations, healthy snacks, functional bakery products, ice creams, nutritional creams and food supplements.
Production takes place in a controlled environment using deep well water, which guarantees product consistency and microbiological safety. About Food ensures a stable supply for the B2B market and provides adapted formats for B2C clients looking for natural and minimally transformed products.
With a validated production capacity of up to fifty tonnes per year and expansion plans to reach one hundred and fifty tonnes, we position ourselves as a reliable European supplier of premium fresh frozen spirulina.
